MEET

HARRISON

Senate District 31

"Change seems scary until we realize what the status quo entails."

My name is Harrison Tuttle, and I am an organizer and activist that is running for public office to ensure that the people of District 31 continue to have true progressive representation in the State House. I am a lifelong resident of Rhode Island, raised alongside my two brothers by my mother, and two amazing grandparents. Growing up, my family and I lived in both Cranston and West Warwick, following different hardships, which included my family and I living in a rental home in Cranston which contained chipping lead paint and toxic black mold from an un-repaired roof leak due to ice dams. We were forced from the rental after filing Minimum Housing Violations against the landlord with the City. After withholding rent to gain leverage following months of unresponsive maintenance requests, they attempted to evict my family and gave us a 15 day notice to vacate.

I attended schools throughout the city such as St. Mary’s, Hope Highlands Elementary, and Western Hill Middle School. In High School, at Bishop Hendricken High School I played Football and Wrestled on the State Championship Teams graduating in 2018. In May of 2020, as the world was shaken by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and the unjust murder of George Floyd, I, like millions globally, took to the streets in peaceful protest. I quickly became heavily involved in political organizing, joining BLM RI PAC, an organization that works to bridge grassroots organizing and electoral politics by supporting progressive candidates of color, elected officials, that fight for issues centered around racial justice. Since becoming Executive Director in March of 2021, I have helped continue to fight for progressive legislation, such as the Repeal of Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights, Medicaid Coverage for all Children, the Equality in Abortion Coverage Act, all while continuing to build coalitions with other organizations within Rhode Island and across the region.
